"I believe the world is incomprehensibly beautiful - an endless prospect of magic and wonder. " - Ansel Adams
So I wanted to remind myself and share with you, some of the things that blow
my mind when it comes to life. The things that just seem so amazing and bizarre
and leave you with a sense of awe and wonder! These are things that I've read
about or have wondered myself, and, obviously, I'm not a professional in any of
these things so go nuts and look up these things for yourself because they
really do make you think, and have also started to help me find my sense of
wonder for life again when I needed it.
10 Things That Blow My
Mind:
1) Mums have always had us with
them!
This is something that I learnt that is literally my number one, mind-blowing
fact that I know so here it goes . . . Our mothers have always had us
with them, all their lives, without knowing! Before they created us inside of
themselves, they have always carried half of our genetic material inside of
them their whole lives! Ever since they were born! The female eggs are present
from before (!) birth but only mature when they reach puberty and the oh
so fun (not!) periods start. At 7 months pregnant, a female baby develops
eggs which also means that not only have our mothers always carried us inside
of them but our Grandmothers have as well whilst pregnant with our mothers!!
Like WHAT?!! 🤯🤯
Our maternal grandmothers have carried us as well! 😱 I sadly never
got to meet my Mum's Mum but it's so beautiful and comforting to think that I
have been metaphorically touched by her when she was pregnant with my Mum. 💜
2) Pregnancy!
This was a TikTok suggestion from Katy and it's something I've also thought was
always mind-blowing - thank you for your suggestion! 💜 The whole
concept of pregnancy and growing and having a baby is incredible when you stop
and really think about it! When women are pregnant, they actually have
and are creating a real life human being inside of them! Inside of their
bodies, things are being created into existence from nothing but the genetic
material from 2 individuals! Things like, bones, a brain, veins, organs, neural
structuring, the wiring of the brain, skin! It all happens inside the
woman. We see it every day, a pregnancy announcement online from someone we
went to school with, a family member telling us that they're expecting, the
doctor telling you that you're pregnant, it's so common to hear and know but
when you actually think about it, it's amazing! And not only the pregnancy but
the labour as well! Another mini human is removed out of the body! A living,
breathing, thinking, feeling, unique human that was created by two people and
grown inside one for nine months, it's incredible and so beautiful! 💜
3) Our ancestry lines
have led down to us right now!
This one is so beautiful and mind-blowing to me and I hope it has the same
effect on you! We're alive in this moment due to our ancestors stretching all
the way back to the beginning of time (dun dun duunnnn 😂)! We're the
latest on that bloodline, we have decades and decades worth of family members
that we don't even know about or the ones we never got to meet but maybe our
parents and grandparents did, they're all watching over us right now! Had
anything even slightly changed or were different we wouldn't be here or who we
are today. There's a whole line of past, distant family members who we don't
even know or know their names that link to us from generations and decades past!
It's wild and amazing to think about! 💜
4) We have stardust in
our veins!
This one is a truly beautiful fact that has stuck with me since the day I
learnt about it and is something that always comforts me when I'm struggling or
feeling low! We have stardust in our veins! Our veins carry blood throughout
our bodies, blood is made up of many things, one of which is iron and that iron
that's in our bodies was created in space billions of years ago from a star
that blew up, spreading the iron in the stardust out into the universe that
gradually got mixed in with other elements and factors to create us humans
today! I've reworded it to make it more easy to understand and I'll link the
source here for you to read about it for yourself! (https://www.wired.com/2013/03/stardust-in-your-veins/)
So you are literally stardust! Go you! ✨️💜😂
5) We go past the day we die
every year without knowing!
Just like we all have a birthday, we also have a "death day", the day
we die and we don't know it! We go past it every year since we were born and
we're completely unaware! Begs to wonder that old "Would You Rather"
question, would you rather know the day you die or how you die? (Me personally,
I think I'd want to know the day, it's hard to explain but I think I'd prefer
it over driving myself crazy by avoiding or overthinking the way I die. What
about you? 🤔)
6) We go past future
important dates to us!
This one links in with the one above but in a different way. We go past future
important dates to us without knowing, such as the day we meet our best friend,
the day we meet the person we're going to spend the rest of our lives with, the
day our children are born, when we get married, or when we start our
businesses, the day a loved one passes, etc. Our whole lives can change in a
day and we go past that day every year (as we have done since we were born)
without knowing, it's bizarre and strange but interesting to think about! And
who knows? Maybe today's date will become an important one for you in the
future? 🤔
7) Parents had a life before us!
I know this one has done the rounds online but it really hits me when I
actually sit and think about it. Our parents were once our age, they were once
kids and then teenagers, they grew up, they've been our age before, and we
don't know all of the details of their lives as we may know about them now!
Like, they are their own individual people, they didn't come about and only
start to exist once we were born, they've been alive longer than we have! Our
parents have their own memories, they have memories that we aren't a part of!
They existed and had a life before we came around! Same goes for our
grandparents! Another version of this is that, our parents and grandparents
have known us our whole lives but we haven't known them all of their lives.
We've only known them for however old we are and even then some of those years
we weren't fully aware, we were just babies but we just feel like we've known
them all their lives but we haven't, we've only known them for a certain part,
a certain chapter of theirs! It's crazy! 😳
8) Everyone has their own
lives!
Okay, so stay with me because you're probably reading that heading and are
thinking, "Well, yeah Emily, duh!" But I'm talking about when we're
going through our lives, we just see and experience things from our own
perspective, our own interpretations, our decisions that we make every day.
When we interact with others, to us it seems as if they're just making a guest
appearance, we talk to the delivery driver and then we shut the door and
they're gone. But to them you're just the guest appearance, they're
living their own lives, have their own worries, jobs, to-do lists, hopes,
plans, families, drama, they have their own world that we don't know anything
about! We just see our perspectives and experiences and that's it, it's our
world and everyone else is just passing by but in actual fact that person walking
down the street has their own world and perspective and is experiencing it both
differently and the same as you. The same way like they're the main character
and others just appear and pass by but also completely differently to you
because they're living their own unique, individual life. There is so much
going on in the world simply via the other individuals and their lives that we share
the same space with, it's incredible!
9) Why someone's
favourite quotes are their favourite!
I feel like this one has definitely gone around online and it's
something that amazes me! So many people have a favourite quotes/s or a quote
that means something to them for one reason or another. Some of which might be
the same quote as others favourites but for different reasons! Their
interpretations and meanings they have for them in their lives is completely
unique and different to one another, despite both loving the same quote, they
mean something different to the individual! It's the same with favourite songs
or movies or books etc., they're someone's favourites for one reason to one person
but it means just as much but for a different reason to another person - it's
so special to see certain things join people together! 💜
10) We all interpret things
differently!
Each individual person on this planet interprets the world around them, the
things they see, hear, smell, taste completely differently to everyone else!
They may have similarities but nothing's exactly the same! It's the same with
colours, we all see colours differently than one another - have you ever had
someone describe the colour of something to you but when you see it for
yourself, it's not like how the other person described it to you?!
All of these things amaze me, I know on the surface it's just common
understanding of stuff but when you actually sit and think about each of them,
the truth of them, the practicality of them, putting them in the context of
your own life, it's amazing and mind blowing that such simple things are so
wonderful! ✨️
This list is a way to help me remember that there is incredible and amazing things
